Who are the founders of Evolving Education?
We believe in a world where schools are not a mirror of how society is, but how it could be.
Hello, we are Luz Olid and David Caballero.
We have always been passionate about learning, which led us to train as scientists. We wanted to be on the edge between the known and the unknown to never stop learning.
We worked in academic research, startups and large multinationals in Spain, the USA, the UK and Belgium. We got to lead international teams and train at the best universities, such as the University of Cambridge.
Despite our professional success, we were dissatisfied with our social impact. And the higher we climbed the career ladder, the more obvious it became.
“Am I following my own path or other people’s steps?”
Breaking from the established path was not easy. Expectations, promotions, family…
So instead, we used our holidays to volunteer at schools in vulnerable communities.
IN AN ORPHANAGE WE MET A SOLDIER THAT BECAME A TEACHER.
In our conversation, he confessed that he was always scared and that he thought that his fears would disappear joining the army. “Did it happen?” – we asked him. “No” – he answered.
“Fear does not go away. You have to accept that it will be there and still follow your dreams.”
We jumped into the unknown! We left our jobs, our financial security, and the stability of our lives.
“We left behind the life that we had planned to accept the one that awaited us.”
We trained as teachers, but found an outdated educational paradigm that did not seem to have evolved in the last 200 years. In our previous jobs we had trainings about “how to develop your self-esteem”, “how to work in a team”… But, how didn’t we learn this when we were children?!
So we researched innovative educational methodologies that seemed to be left out of mainstream education. However, neither we nor anyone we knew had ever experienced another way of learning.
We applied our research skills to education, experiencing first-hand how the most progressive learning centers on the planet work.
“We have learned from more than 150 educators, families and learners of 17 nationalities.”
There is a huge difference between kids who have developed in environments that empower them and in conventional schools. Their self-awareness, creativity, critical thinking and social skills…
AND YET, THESE OPPORTUNITIES ARE RESTRICTED TO A FEW. WE COULD NOT STAY IDLY BY!
Along our adventure we recorded all our research. We now had hundreds of hours of interviews with educators who are leading the change.
The amount of information was overwhelming, but the goal was clear. This collective wisdom had to be democratized.
We understand if you feel:
- Lost about how to leave behind outdated educational patterns and support the development of essential life skills.
- Without references to change dynamics and empower your learners to take responsibility for their learning and their lives.
- Isolated, without a community with whom to share challenges and learning.
We trust you to:
- Live a more authentic life aligned with your values in education.
- Be part of the change, starting with yourself, growing personally and professionally in a community of change-makers in education.
- Leverage dynamics that empower kids to take control of their lives and take an active role in society.
We develop learnings experiences that prepare you to support children and youth to be ready for the present and the future
Liz Campbell, university professor of education
"The result, the product, is exemplary. But the process is magical. And having the energy, the resources and the intuition for such young people with such dedication… You give me hope!"
Sidney Morris, founder of multiple education initiatives
"I don’t think that I have ever seen an approach to the miracle of education that is as diverse and detailed at the same time as the one that you two have created."
